The Winners & Losers Of The 2020 Election

I read so many facebook posts and instagram memes comparing the 2020 Election day(s) to a number of things, but for me, it felt like a very long and serious operation to remove a brain tumor. This operation could have been terminal. At the end of this operation, the nurse could have come out and say, “I am sorry, we did everything we could, but we lost her”, or “great news, she made it through the operation, it will be a long and difficult recovery process for her, but she will be fine”.

Now that the results are in and Joe Biden is officially going to be the next president of the United States, it is time to look back and analyze the results of the election to find out who are the winners and losers of in the 2020 race.

The Winners:

Joe Biden

Joe Biden is the obvious winner of the 2020 presidential race. He ran a clean campaign that we, as the American people, can be proud of. He didn’t call anyone a murderer or a rapist. He didn’t attack his opponent’s family, even though they are still out there attacking Joe Biden, and his son Hunter Biden. He didn’t request any foreign entity to interfere in our election process and help him win. He didn’t risk the life of his campaign staffers and his supporters by throwing big rallies without social distancing and masks. He ran an honest campaign about the issues that are most important to a majority of the American people and a majority of American people supported him and elected him to be the next president. This is the way every campaign should be run and won. So, Congratulations to Joe Biden, his family and the campaign staffers, surrogates and volunteers who worked tirelessly on the path to victory.

Kamala Harris

Kamala is about to become the first woman of color to be elected as the Vice President of the United States and that is something we can all celebrate. A woman heading the second highest office in the land is a giant step for all Americans. She did a fantastic job in all of her debates, even in the primaries and someone with her experience and energy can be highly instrumental in the role of the Vice President. So a huge congratulations to Kamal Harris, her staff and her family.

Stacey Abrams

She may have lost her bid in the race to become the governor of Georgia in 2018, but her efforts before, during and after her gubernatorial campaign had a huge impact in turning Georgia blue, and for that, I congratulate her.

The American People

A record shattering number of Americans participated in the Elections this year and it so heartening and encouraging to see the American People getting up and making their voices heard in such a crucial Election season. Democrat got some of the things they wanted. They held on the house, flipped Arizona and Georgia and reclaimed the so called “Blue Wall”. It is a huge accomplishment for the Democratic party and everyone involved in all the campaigns, the donors and the volunteers. They felt short in their efforts to win the Senate, but, that is why I want to congratulate the American people and not just the democrats. The Republican party had a great night as well. They held on to the senate (not now) and that in itself, against all odds, is an accomplishment, so a big congratulations to ALL Americans who voted and participated in the Election. The turnout shattered all previous records and the People let their voices be heard and they could not have been clearer.

People were unsatisfied with the job that Donald Trump was doing as the president so they elected Joe Biden. In addition to that, they divided up the house and senate because everyone’s voice matters in this country and Republicans should be represented and heard. The United States’ congress needs to learn how to work together again, and with the right leadership in the White House, and for the sake of our country, I have high hopes for it to happen sooner rather than later.

Honorable Mention: John King. The stamina. Wow, just wow.

The Losers:

Donald Trump

As tempting as it is to call him personally a loser (since that is his favorite choice word for people who he thinks are weak and incompetent) I am going to refrain from calling him a loser and rather call him the loser of the 2020 presidential race. It was a slow and excruciating defeat which I am sure made it all more painful for him and his staffers. I don’t wish that on anybody. It must have been a very stressful 72 hours for him and those surrounding him but alas, when it came to measuring up against Joe Biden, he fell short (pun very much intended). Trump must now turn around and face the music.

Donald Trump Supporters

Like I said before, Republicans have something to be grateful for, holding on to the Senate (for now), so, Republicans are not really the losers. Trump supporters on the other hand, People who love Trump because he calls Mexicans “murderers” or “rapists”, or calls Black athletes “sons of bitches”, or call Nazis “very fine people”. Sorry, you ARE losers, and not just because you picked the losing side, it’s because you basked in the ugliness of Donald Trump’s racism and xenophobia and a majority of the country shut you down. So, stay down.

The Coronavirus

Yes, Biden is going to listen to the scientists. Yes, Biden will implement a national mask mandate, and YES, Biden will shut the country down IF it is necessary to control the virus and avoid the unnecessary loss of life that has escalated rapidly and will get worse in the coming winter months. So, coronavirus, you may have been able to reign free under Donald Trump’s administration and web of lies, but your days are numbered. You will be defeated because we are going to have a president that believes in science.

Eric Trump

He was busted for sharing a fake video of people burning ballots on Twitter. Shooting the credibility of himself, his dad and their entire organization in the foot. I frequently checked their twitter feed on Election Day, and it just makes it impossible to believe a word that comes out of the mouth of Trump and his children when this is what their feed looks like:

Lindsey Graham & Ted Cruz

For backing the baseless conspiracy theories that Donald Trump created in order to soften the blow to his own ego. By doing so, these two are damaging the sanctity of our democracy and it is disheartening to see them get reelected after they backed Donald Trump, time and again when they knew what kind of a vile human being he is. Something that can be corrected in future elections.
